Abstract

The notion of competencies is a reference in capitalism of transnational corporations’ hegemony. Capitalists foresee growing profits from productivity without sharing them with workers and without investing in social reproduction costs. School education is one of those costs integrated to international division of labor. Due to this, it must answer to productive world´s utilitarianism and economic development, for its influenced by the notion of competencies and by the logic of the private sector aiming the reduction of graduation costs.  In this paper, we analyze public school Education in its low social cost condition. This paper is a study about implementation of curriculum based on competencies in a state school of Sao Paulo, considering the changes in teacher´s labor. Qualitative research grounded on the study of this case emphasized the analysis of the teacher’s interviews. Their work is modified, once teaching is organized by projects imposed by State Department of Education. Teacher´s autonomy is reached regarding the development of the content of the discipline and in the process of knowledge elaboration process with the students. The knowledge is fragmented and selected in a utilitarian way in accord to the logic of rational technique and productivity in market ambit.  The labor of the teachers is restructured to reaffirm such logic, privileging the private sector principles and the public space weakening. Their acting loses collective and individual political expression.
