Abstract

This article aims at discussing the definition and the problematization of social policy and State in the work Democracy and social policy, by Evaldo Amaro Vieira. The analysis takes as a reference the understanding of democracy under a historical point of view, in the light of several authors who discuss the types of democracy and of State, focusing on the forms of democracy and the government processes derived from these definitions. Based on the analysis of the types of democracy and State, we examine the definition of social policy presented by several authors, highlighting how the social policies appear as a result of the social and political process collectively built up. The definition of social policy presented in the work Democracy and social policy can help us understand the relationship between State, social policies and economic policies. Finally, we present some considerations on the relation between State, democracy and social policy.
