Abstract

The purpose of this article is to reflect upon the theoretical-practical implications of the current policies for initial distance education of teachers aimed at the early elementary school grades, based on the Law of Guidelines and Bases for National Education n.9.394/96.
The article presents the reductionist and segmented vision that predominates in the Distance Education projects for teacher training, particularly those based on a tendentious reading of the law and a merely technical concept of teacher education, without considering the preparation needed so that these professionals can deal with the complexity of the school and pedagogical determinants. The current extraordinary supply of distance courses for the certification of teachers affirms itself more as a form of compensatory education than as an effective educational process.
