Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to analyze to what extent the process of inclusion of deaf students in conventional education has contributed (or failed to contribute) for the learning of Portuguese and Brazilian Sign Language, from the perspective of the deaf students involved. Therefore, semi-structured questionnaires were applied to nine deaf students in a public state school in Montes Claros. The results indicate that the students do not have sign language classes at school and report accentuated difficulties in learning Portuguese. This means that students are not increasing significantly the knowledge they already have in sign language and that the process of teaching and learning written Portuguese is defective.
