Abstract

We have seen a meaningful increase in the number of people with emotional disorders, mainly children and adolescents, in recent years. Likewise, the practice of medicalization of emotions and feelings - which were formerly considered normal – has also been on the increase. These reflections on existence, human development and imagination aim at understanding how existential health happens in its most genuine sense, besides aiming at problematizing the symbolic sense of what has been called disorders. In the light of the studies of the Imaginary and of (self)biographical studies, we have understood health as the capacity for making our faces of joy and pain, pleasure and suffering, and fear and hope keep a dialogue. From this perspective, education, based on the pedagogy of the imaginary and of (self)development, may be a way to get a more conscious society regarding its needs to feel, weigh and act.
