Abstract

The article portrays the interconnection between the conceptual approach of fixed elements and local development and the implementation of tourism in Amazonian realities, based on an understanding of the dynamics of space in the work of Milton Santos. The research procedure focuses on conceptual associations identified in the literature involving geographical space, its dynamics of objects and actions, its fixed elements and flows, among other characteristics applicable to a location (the Amazon) and a potential economic activity (tourism). Among the findings, the production of human geography was associated with a confrontation between transformations of space, its metamorphoses described by Milton Santos, and possibilities for conservation, especially considering how new flows are capable of impacting established fixed points through new fixed points, since the process of substitution prevails over that of coexistence. The study focused on the Guaporé Valley (RO), a location of natural and traditional origin, and the possibility of implementing tourism in the area. In the end, the study, in addition to validating the assumption of impacts of economic activity on established fixed points through increased flows and new fixed points, points to this analysis as a rich possibility for analytics for the establishment of economic activities in a sustainable manner.
