Abstract

This study was originated from the experience in Municipal Early Childhood Education Center, where it is perceived that the work with the music, as a way of contribution to the development of the higher psychological functions of the child is undervalued, because much use is made of songs of daily routine children, but with little cultural purpose. Thus the goal is discussing which are the contributions of the music to the children’s development in the perspective of Historical-Cultural Theory, approaching proposals of pedagogical interventions present in the activities that involve the analyzed project, called SARAU, and reflecting on how these experiences can contribute to the development of the higher psychological functions of the children. For this purpose it is approached some historical aspects of Early Childhood Education in Brazil, the periodization process of the child development, and musical experiences, specifically the project called SARAU. The work finalizes by pointing out that the insertion of projects aimed to the cultural appreciation of music, can be seen as complementary resources that help in the musical and artistic valorization present in the school institutions, highlighting those of Early Childhood Education. Projects on this purpose can beyond provide an approaching to the musical, cultural and social world; also contribute to the integral development of the children.
