Abstract

This work aims to identify the complexities of a physical education teacher-researcher’s beginning in the teaching career while unveiling pedagogical becomings through self-study. In order to identify the complexities of a teaching career beginning, we adopted Deleuzi and Guattari's (1987) concept of rhizome, which emphasizes the relationships between elements inserted in the studied situation’s context. Methodologically, the research is based on assumptions and principles of the “self-study of teaching and teacher education practices” (S-STEP) (KITCHEN et al., 2020) with rhizomatic mapping. The complexities that arose from the limit-emerging situations of practice, the teacher's pedagogical intentions and the teacher's relationships with students and other teachers contributed positively to seek ways to intervene together with the students, the institution and the teachers. Not surprisingly, critical friendship provided a collaborative environment. We hope that this work contributes to the field of research on teacher (self)education within school physical education. In addition, it encourages the realization of new self-studies in basic education, as it helps the process of reflection and understanding of practice in the context of pedagogical becomings.
