Abstract

The learning and teaching process in the context of Technological and Professional Education is a recurrent theme nowadays since ir refers to factors that cause influence in the students' academic performance and in the professor's work. Thus, this article objectivizes the understanding of students' learning difficulties and their implications in the professors' work in the context of Brazilian Professional Education. The research, inserted in a qualitative approach of aducation, qualifies as a case study, located at Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciencia e tecnologia IFCE, Maracanaú Campus. As data collection strategy, questionnaires were applied with five  professors who teach subjects on the following tachnological axes: Telematics (3) and Industry (2). The data analysis was carried out based on the authors who grounded the study, namely: Davis (1994); Tardif (2002); Zabalza (2004), Ramos (2002), amongst others. Results show that the main causes for students' failure are mostly focused at the very student himself by his lack of time to study and by his knowledge deficiency in maths, gaps derived from primary school. Besides, it was realised that the lack of articulation amongst the contents taught in the classroom and the social reality in which students live also have influence on their learning. The scenario brought about by tihs research suggests some reflection on the teachers' methodological procedures in the attempt to improve the students' levels of understanding. Thereunto, it is made necessary for professors to reflect upon teaching and learnung processes, indicating not only students' limitations but also their potentialities. Thus, considering teaching as a political and collective act, it needs to be evaluated, reconsidered and, if necessary, reconstructed. This should be done with dialogue, appreciation of others, interdisciplinary work involving the several actors in teaching learning process.
