Abstract

This text aims to construct comparative readings refering to negotiations and conflicts of memories of slavery in the port regions of three Atlantic cities: Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Dakar (Senegal) and Ouidah (Benin). These readings, concerning the sites of memory of transcontinental slavery, propose to expand the possibilities of reflection on contemporary dilemmas involving the construction of memory projects about black African identities. If the different elaborations of memories of slavery reveal, on the one hand, the deconstruction of racism and colonial practices strategies, on the other, when studied in a diasporic perspective, bring out contemporary dilemmas related to conflicts of power involving the implementation of identities and collective memories in different regions of the Black Atlantic.
