Abstract

The curricular analysis made in this study approaches an explanation about the scientific skills performance differences between Peru and Portugal showed in the PISA 2012 results. For this purpose, we have developed a review process and content analysis of scientific ability components stated in the curriculum of both countries. The results reveal, in the skills component, that Portugal widely focuses on scientific explanation, whilst Peru emphasizes the identification of scientific issues. About knowledge component, Portugal highlights the physic, earth and space systems contents, unlike the emphasis on technology topics in Peru. However, the attitude component slightly varies. Moreover, the curricular organization differences make visible curricular disparities on time distribution, since that Portugal allocates more time periods than Peru; which could explain the interest in the scientific skill.
