Abstract

This article presents a reflection about the contribution of the complete works of Gilbert Durand for education and the “pedagogical lessons” that can be derived from it. Considering the value assigned by him to homo symbolicus and imagination in development of cultures, sciences and education, the intent is to show that only the understanding of the process of symbolization, can lead to one pedagogy of imaginary, which has the goal the “education of the soul”, by the restoration of the balance between reason and imagination, required for integral formation of human being.
