Abstract

Her is a film that follows Theodore, a writer in the final stages of his divorce who develops a relationship with Samantha, an artificially intelligent operating system. This paper aims to analyze the film as a metaphor of some of the contemporary presuppositions on subjectivity. Samantha’s human-like behavior will help us question some dichotomies of the Western thought that cross authoritative discourse about the truth, the being, the identity and the gender relations. As the frontiers between the human being and the machine are blurred, Samantha will provoke a reflection about the subject ontology.
