Abstract

This paper aims to consider the challenge of training teachers in a distance learning environment, it has as its own challenge the physical absence of the professor, although the virtual presence of the professor happens through interaction and interactivity, in the sense of overcoming this so called barrier. It approaches concepts and ideas about distance learning and explains the boundaries of this kind of education, under the scope of two different authors. The theoretical basis brings us reflexions about teacher training in distance learning environment, punctuating the virtual presence of professors and  alumnus, as well as the interaction among them, in a way to overcome the need of their physical presence, which is usual in conventional learning environments. We can infer that it is really possible to train teachers in distance learning environments, as long as the individuals involved in this training process – professors and alumnus – are prepared and conscious to challenge the presence of the absence.
