Abstract: The effects of climate change are becoming increasingly evident. Greenhouse gases from motor vehicles have significant impacts on the global climate. Planting trees is a highly effective practice for capturing this gas. The Federal Constitution of 1988 considers environmental defense the responsibility of society as a whole, at all levels. This research aims to highlight the importance of laws and accountability of automobile dealerships for mitigating the greenhouse effect and protecting the environment, in a local action that can have a global impact. This work was developed through an inductive method and addresses data on the importance of creating municipal laws and policies that contribute to mitigating the greenhouse effect, holding the private sector accountable. The study was conducted using the legislation of the municipality of Londrina, in the State of Paraná, as an example. It is concluded that, with the right policies and incentives, it is possible to achieve economic growth with lower carbon production, holding automobile dealerships accountable and demanding practices to mitigate gases from motor vehicles.
