Abstract

The text talks about the teacher as an intellectual. It takes as references to reflexion the approach  that in that sense are made by the Pedagogy of the New School in Brazil, particularly in Paraná, in the perspective of Erasmo Pilotto (1938-1946); in the writings of Gramsci, in the work “The Intellectuals and the culture organization” (1982); and it focuses about the meaning of school today, and consequently of the teacher, according to the duty that it is given by Dermeval Saviani in the work “The critical historic pedagogy: the first closure” (2008). It intends to contribute with the reflexions about the role of an intellectual that the teacher plays in the Brazilian education.
