Abstract

The article addresses education in countryside in a micro-historical perspective, in which it is pointed out more global changes of perspective on economy, technology and state management that have a direct impact on rural education. Such impacts are pointed out as a negative repercussion in rural man's culture, since it reaches a certain ethos, causing anomie and chaos in rooted customs. By means of historiographical notes that refer to Portuguese Empire in Brazil, it is pointed out the beginning and the reforms in rural vocational education as the meeting place of these two perspectives: the global and the local, that is, the pressures for changes that start from a Global perspective and the reforms of school models to meet political and market demands.
