Abstract

This paper aims to expose and discuss the concept of professionalism in the emerging field of teacher education, as well as the speeches that this training takes from the neoliberal and post-modern theories for education. In general, educational policies have guided content and objectives for training teachers, adapting it to a new professional profile. However, the term professionalization, initially seen as an innovator, evokes, in fact, notions of (dis) qualification, competence and accountability, whose objective is to effect reform of the brazilian State occurred in the 1990s. In this scenario, the teacher is regarded as mainly responsible for the quality of education, which in turn, must seek to solve the social problems in this new century.
