Summary: The colonization process of the territory that is now the State of Rondônia, promoted by the military regime, did not take into account the needs of the traditional populations, which maintain, to this day, a way of life closely linked to the environment in which they are inserted. In the case of Quilombola communities, despite the advancement of pastures, large-scale agriculture, tourism, and other economic activities, the seven existing communities in the state, all in the Guaporé River Basin, continue to resist. Most conflicts arise from the spatial dispute between a traditional way of life and capitalist economy, with prejudice playing a role in viewing these communities as representing a "backwardness" that modern society cannot tolerate, as they would be a major obstacle to the development of capitalist economy linked to agribusiness in the region. Through a bibliographic review, this article aims to identify these Quilombola communities, their connection with the environment, and the conflicts in which they are involved.
Keywords: Quilombola Communities, Guaporé River, way of life.
