Abstract

Abstract: The present work interconnects basic sanitation issues in a multidirectional way and brings to light different gaps in the Brazilian macro-regions that generate a negative impact on the incidence of health-related diseases in Brazil. This theme is representative in the national scenario due to the universalization of access to quality water and to the collection and treatment of sewage. There is an urgent need for changes in the infrastructure and gaps in health care to address the large portion of the population that does not have access to these services and their effects on the environment, development and the promotion of human well-being. The methodology used data from the National Health Information System (SNIS), Instituto Trata Brasil (ITB) and the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The research showed the fragility of care systems, generating negative externalities in health issues. It is considered that the challenges faced by the sector are great and that the basic sanitation sector is directly linked to health impacts, it was possible to observe a high disparity in the Brazilian regions regarding sanitary diseases and deaths linked to the sector, especially in the macro-regions of the North and Northeast. Finally, it is important to highlight that the management aspects are the ones that were observed to be the most relevant, directing research, planning and regional data.
