Abstract

Abstract: This study investigates the relationship between ecosocialism and environmental education as a possible response to the contemporary global crisis, characterized by issues such as pollution, resource scarcity, and biodiversity loss. In this context, ecosocialism emerges as an integrative perspective that seeks to both mitigate environmental impacts and address underlying inequalities contributing to environmental degradation. The research uses a qualitative bibliographic review approach to explore the evolution of ecosocialism from its roots in Marx and Engels to the Ecosocialist Manifesto of Belém in 2008, highlighting its application in the Brazilian scenario through the legacy of Chico Mendes. It analyzes environmental education under the conservationist, pragmatic, and critical macro-trends. The study highlights the convergence between Transformative Environmental Education and ecosocialism and emphasizes the need for structural changes in society to achieve sustainability. Opportunities for building ecological awareness are identified, with an emphasis on the importance of politically oriented environmental education. Despite the scarcity of specific articles on environmental education focusing on ecosocialism, related works point to the need for a combined approach of Transformative Environmental Education and ecosocialism for more effective awareness and action against contemporary environmental challenges, with an emphasis on teacher training and the formulation of a critical environmental agenda.

Keywords: ecological awareness, ecosocialism, social transformation, environmental education.
